Weather in Cuba
Cuba is nestled in an archipelago of small islands in the Caribbean. Cuba, the main island, is surrounded by the four main groups of Islands known as the Colorados, the Sabana Camaguey, the Canarreos and the Jardines of the Reina. Cuba is a very large island stretching over 105,006km in length and is the 17th largest island in the world. The climate in Cuba is mild subtropical, thanks to its proximity to the Tropic of Cancer. The island's narrow configuration, east to west, receives the refreshing action of the trade winds and marine breezes. During the short winter, the climate comes under the influences of cold air masses from the North, but they are of short duration. The eastern region enjoys a warmer weather than the western and the variations of temperature between the day and the night are less accentuated in the coastal regions that in inland area. Weather facts and stats: The average temperature in winter is about 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 21 degrees Celsius. During the summer (July and August) extremes of heat average 81 degrees Fahrenheit or 27.2 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity averageof 80%. The island lies in a region occasionally traversed by violent tropical hurricanes during August, September, and October. Annual rainfall averages about 1320 mm (about 52 in.) More than 60% of the rain falls during the wet season, which extends from May to October.
